Recommended Puppy Exam & Vaccine Schedule
We recommend doing an initial puppy exam and first round of vaccines at 8-10 weeks. At this exam puppies should receive their first DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza) Vaccine, which requires a booster in 3-4 weeks. We’ll do a fecal test to check for intestinal parasites and send home dewormer as needed. We will also send you home with your first dose of flea, tick and heartworm preventative.
A second puppy exam should be performed at 12-14 weeks of age. At this exam puppies will receive their 2nd DHPP Booster, we highly recommend combining this with the leptospirosis vaccine (DHLPP). We can also give the non-core vaccinations against Lyme Disease, Bordetella, and Canine Influenza at this appointment. If a recheck is needed or the prior results are inconclusive another fecal test can be given. You can pick up your next dose of preventatives at this time.
A final exam should be performed at 16-18 weeks of age. We recommend puppies receive their final DHPP or DHLPP booster (if Lepto given at 12 weeks) and their Rabies Vaccine at this appointment. Initial Rabies Vaccinations expire in one year, subsequent vaccinations expire in three years. We can give any non-core vaccines not previously given and perform any fecal rechecks as well. If your puppy isn’t already spayed or neutered we’ll go over options and age recommendations and answer any questions you have.
Recommended Kitten Exam & Vaccine Schedule
We recommend doing an initial kitten exam and first round of vaccines at 8-10 weeks. At this exam kittens should receive their first FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia) Vaccine, which requires a booster in 3-4 weeks. We’ll do a fecal test to check for intestinal parasites and send home dewormer as needed. We will also send you home with your first dose of flea, tick, earmite and worm preventative. This topical treatment should be used monthly.
A second kitten exam should be performed at 12-14 weeks of age. At this exam kittens will receive their 2nd FVRCP Booster. We can also give the non-core vaccine for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) at this time, this will require a booster in 3-4 weeks. If a recheck is needed or the prior results are inconclusive another fecal test can be given. You can pick up your next dose of preventative at this time.
A final exam should be performed at 16-18 weeks of age. We recommend kittens receive their final FVRCP vaccine and their Rabies Vaccine at this appointment. Initial Rabies Vaccinations expire in one year, subsequent vaccinations expire in three years. We can give or booster any non-core vaccines and perform any fecal rechecks as well. If your kitten isn’t already spayed or neutered we’ll discuss options and age recommendations and answer any questions you have about these procedures.
